Piper is getting older and is doing great. She can be left in her crate up to 4 hrs before a potty break so she would now be fine with someone that worked but came home at lunch to take her out or have a dog walker or family member come over to get her out for a potty and exercise break.
3/8/16 Progress and Update on Piper: She is doing good! She is getting a little better on play, but is still learning. She now wants attention from anyone on the street, but is still wary of other dogs. She goes up to them now, but is scared to interact. (She is learning to socialize and making progress.) And finally, she is getting better about being picked up by other people, but stills try to fight me on it at times.
2/22/16 The puppies are doing great. All the foster families have been working on crate, leash and potty training. Here is an update on Piper's progress from the foster:
She is actually a champ when it comes to bathroom time and being in her crate! We started a routine as soon as she got here and it has worked great! She will now cry or whine in her crate in the morning if she is awake first and really needs to go out. Otherwise she can entertain herself. We go out to the bathroom and walk a lot. But if necessary she can last a good w @ about 5 hours or so. She can now last about 8 hours at night, which I think is great! She is such a champ when we go out because she knows the drill and will go potty right away. She also knows which door to stand by if she wants to go out at any time, and then I know to take her potty. She is a perfect angel in her crate too. She will bark for a few minutes when I leave for class but other than that she is good. She also cries for a moment when I put her in for bed if she is not overly exhausted yet. One side note, is that she doesn't like to be picked up because she wants to do things herself, she is little miss independent so she learned to climb up and down the stairs, so that I don't have to carry her. Puppies like to bite and wrestle and play, but she can be rough and we are working on that and she would love another playful dog or with a family that has family or friends with dogs that like to play. We are working on her knowing that there are boundaries and people aren't play things. Right now she thinks everything is a play toy: shirt, pants, and socks. (She needs to be redirected to the dog toys so she knows that they are the only things she can tug on. All puppies need to be taught what they can and can not play with. Finally, she is pretty cautious about new people and other dogs. Since she has only been around her siblings for so long and not any outside animals when they were younger she is not sure and a little insecure. Socialization will help her out tramendously. We have another dog in the house but it is a tiny dachshund and Piper just dominates her. The other dog doesn't fight back so Piper plays rough and tumble with no fear.
2/11/16- The pups are just over 11 weeks now. Piper was the lightest at 12.6 lbs, Ruby at 13.1 lbs, and Chase was the biggest at 16.06 lbs. They all received their 2nd Distemper shot.
1/28/16 Of course we can not absolutely predict their adult size but we have seen their growing weights to be able to say that they will probably be more of the size of a small Lab and not really a Beage size. Around 40 lbs. Just wanted to give people an idea since they are a mix of two different sized breeds. The remaining pups are more adorable than ever.
1/11/16 UPDATE ON THE AVAILABLE PUPS FROM THE FOSTER MOM:
Right now all the pups are still in a gated off area where there stay most of the time and of course go to the bathroom in there. When we let them run around at least three times a day, I put them outside first and they seem to go right away. We still have accidents and new adopters need to get on a potty training schedule with them. They also have not been on leashes yet which is normal but again new adopters can start on this once adopted.
LUCKY: so sweet and calm compared to the others. Loves to just sit on your lap and give kisses. White toes on all feet and mtot white on chest compared to the other two black ones.
RUBY AND PIPER: Almost twins but Piper has a little white under her chin where Ruby's is just on her chest. Also cute and sweet but very active and like to play rough, like most puppies. Curious and outgoing
CHASE: calm at times but also very active and loves to play. He is a little more shy than Ruby and Piper but not as laid back as Lucky.
Of course if new families are not experienced with potty training and obedience training their are classes at Petsmart and other facilities that you can get professional help if desired.
