7/28/14 Update: Patty is a sweetheart! She is extremely affectionate with people; has been very sweet with our toddler grandson and likes to cuddle with both of us. She plays hard with her foster brothers and it's clear she has an alpha personality. We think Patty has been attention starved; it seems like she just can't get enough of being with us and her foster brothers. Patty is responding well to correction and training. Our opinion is that Patty would do very well in an active, dog experienced household, where she will get the attention, training and love that she needs.

Patty can be pushy with other alpha dogs especially females, so we are looking for a home with active, playful but non-dominant male dogs. Although we don't think she means them harm, she is overexcited by cats and will bother them until they run so she can joyfully chase them.

6/17/14 Update: Patty is back in foster care now, a sweetheart with her foster parents, an enthusiastic  playmate for their energetic male dog,  and a respectful housemate for the other two dogs who want her to leave them alone.  We are looking for a similar home for her with experienced dog owners who can provide the exercise and leadership she needs,  a home with no cats but preferably a playful male dog for canine companionship.

3/29/14 Update: Patricia (Patty) is currently staying with a trainer who is working on her basic obedience skills.   She is a very smart and playful girl, who needs a lot of attention and activity.  Like all smart dogs, she gets easily bored and can get into trouble if not supervised but would be a great dog for anyone interested in agility or similar events.  She is great with one of the  male dog who enjoys playing actively, but can be too pushy for the alpha female, and is too interested in playing with cats.   For all these reasons, we are looking for a home with experienced and active owners, either as an only dog or with an active male dog playmate.

2/11/14 Update:  Patricia is a petite little girl with an adorable furrowed brow and expressive ears.  She follows me around like a little shadow, comes when called and takes that as an immediate invitation to smother you with kisses.  Although 2 years old, she is still very puppy-like - active, playful, restless, jumpy and mouthy and is rarely still.  She's the kind of dog that makes her own fun- for example she grabbed the end of the toilet paper and ran around the house unrolling it.  For these reasons, she would do best  with a family with dog experience who can provide a lot of exercise and training, maybe even agility.

She has been great with woman, but can be fearful when meeting some, but not all men, and even with those she's not afraid of, it takes longer for them to fully earn her trust.  She is getting along with the dogs here, but can be nervous and growly meeting new dogs.  Although she wants to play, she seems to have  limited social skills and doesn't seem to understand that, especially with old cranky dogs like ours, shoving your nose into a dog's behind, leaping on their back, or nipping at them, may upset them.  She backs off when they bark or snap at her, but it will take patience to teach her not to be so pushy and rough.

2/1/14 Update: Patricia may be 2, but she's got a lot of puppy in her.  I swear, she never settles down! :-).  She loves to lick and will jump all over you with no regard for personal space...haha.  She also does not like walking in this cold.  I got 5 minutes out the door and she literally stopped and wouldn't move any farther.  I carried her home!  She's absolutely adorable though and we are working with learning some beginning training things like "sit" and "no". ;-). She's a sweetheart.

1/26/14 Update: Patricia was a little bit scared after her long trip from South Carolina, but as you can see in the picture, it didn't take her long to curl up in her new foster mom's lap.  She is much smaller than she looked in the pictures from the shelter and loves to give kisses!

Notes from the shlter: Sweet little brown dog!  She's just cute.  She's gentle.  She's soft spoken and she kisses on the first date. Meet Patricia!  Very, very quiet and very much a sidelines kind of girl,  she's happy to sit in the bleachers and watch the game play out on the court.   Happy to peacefully stand and hang out in your lap, if she lingers long enough you'll earn some little kisses.  Totally fine with other dogs but not interested in engaging in playtime with them,  she's been a super star in sharing her kennel space with several other dogs with a variety of temperaments and sizes.  For now,  Patricia sports a worried brow.  Let's hope that "brow" and that face,  grab YOUR attention and she finds her new home soon!
