5/5/12 Just to update you all, Freckles is a great companion dog. She loves having her humans with her and will faithfully follow you from room to room quietly. She is very loving and is very obedient. She doesn't mind sleeping in a human's bed or on the floor by your bed. She originally came into the foster's home when 2 other dogs were already here. She did great with them sharing the home and even wanted to play with them. 99.9999% low key but you can get her going when she plays with you but since the 2 other dogs have left, she is the sole dog in the home and when my daughter brings her dog (Peanut) over, she is not so happy for her to be here. She will follow her around and stand in between me and Peanut. This is a protective move. Freckles would be considered an Alpha dog and if another dog is not submissive, there could be trouble. One thing I can say, Freckles does listen to commands. Currently she is laying at my feet and will stay there if another dog comes into my home but she is obedient as long as another dog does not provoke her. She follows commands, Sit, Lay down, shake and she knows what NO means. She loves to travel and is wonderful in a car. She loves kids and attention from everyone!
5/2/12 Freckles is doing wonderful. She is resting and has has a week under her belt in recovering from the treatment. Freckles will be able to see interested approved applicants in a week so fill out an application so we can get you approved and ready to see our girl!
Freckles just got her first of the 2 HW shots this morning. Since the shots are toxic to kill off the heartworms, she is feeling uncomfortable and restless but doing fine. She is resting. Took a new video because she has gotten very spunky since she has been here and will show you what she is like more normally before the HW treatment which she will get back to in several weeks. She has a deep growl and bark and will do it when she wants to play but it scares off the small dogs. She will give a growl to another dog to tell them to back off but never has she ever even attempted to go after another dog to harm them. She just fakes them out. She is not food or toy aggressive. I will say that if she came across anther dog that was an aggressive dog to her, she might not back down but that is just a guess. She is basically a very sweet animal but I have not had her very long to see her at her most comfortable state.
4/23/12 Just came back from the vet. Freckles is now micro chipped and has been checked over and is in great health. We will do her HW treatments on Wed and Thurs so she will be able to recovery and then get into her new forever home in a few weeks. We also have weighed her and she is not the 25-30 lbs as when she first arrived at the shelter, she is actually 39 lbs now. She is no longer underweight and we can actually classify her as a small medium sized dog. She is very easy to handle since she knows and obeys commands, loves people, great with kids, and is good on a harness/leash for walks.
FRECKLES IS HERE. She is a great looking dog with a fabulous personality, low key, very friendly to everyone, not a barker, loves riding shotgun in the car and hanging with her humans. She co-exists with other dogs but hasn't initiated play with new dogs and doesn't really like them in her face. She will give a growl but that is the end of it. I don't think she had lots of interation with other dogs and is unsure about them but will learn to like being around them more and more. She already likes the Chihuahua mix I am fostering. They slept in the bed last night along with me. I think once she is around them a little she will stop the growling. She is completely housebroken and when you are busy she likes to take a nap at your feet. She would be a great family dog and companion dog. She gets excited to go out. She will be ready for her new home in about 2-3 weeks as we evaluate her recovery.
GET YOUR APPLICATION IN, THIS WELL ROUNDED, LOW MAINTENANCE DOG WILL NOT LAST LONG. SHE WILL EASILY FIT INTO MANY FAMILY LIFESTYLES BUT WE WOULD LIKE HER TO BE WITH SOMEONE DURING THE DAY.
From the foster mom in South Carolina: Freckles is gentle and eager to please. Her pretty cream colored face with light brown speckles always has a smile. Despite being found running in traffic and going through a bit of a rough time, this girl's tail is still wagging and she has a fantastic spirit. Freckles loves people! She is friendly and social when meeting someone for the first time.
Freckles personality shines of devotion and loyalty. She wants nothing more than to sit by your side and be a faithful companion. Freckles is practically move in ready. She is very polite, house-broken, and walks nicely on a leash. Freckles does not beg and is patient in her crate. She knows how to sit, stay, lay down, here, up, and paw. Freckles enjoys playing with dog toys, playing fetch with a tennis ball and eating bones. Freckles gets along with other dogs, but hasn't wanted to play with them. She mostly enjoys human interaction. Freckles likes to sit in the front seat when riding in the car and makes a great co-pilot. She is ready to go on her journey to a forever home!
