We are looking for a home with someone at home with Lily during the day. If children are in the home we would like older children because of her size and being easily hurt or stepped on by accident and a physical fence would be required with children.
Eval from the foster mom: Lily 90% housebroken. You have to take her out and give her plenty of time to do several little pees. She doesn’t ask to be let out so you need to take her out often to reinforce going outside. She is okay on the leash but like small dogs, loves to be carried. She is great with car rides. She settles down in your lap and goes right to sleep. I have not crate trained her because she is so tiny… so she sleeps in bed with the family and I am home all day. She barks if the other dogs are barking, I’m thinking as part of the pack. But on her own, I don’t think she would bother. She really loves being with other dogs her size. She and Henry are a little couple and they play doggy chase and run round smelling things together. She does try to be “The Lap Dog” and she has the audacity to growl at them if she in on the lap. But they don’t pay any attention and she ends up sharing the lap with them. She does like the usual dog toys, the stuffed animals with a squeaky. She does like to chew and needs proper guidance to the appropriate item to chew. She is kind of an air-head, and will get up to look at something and the other dogs will steal her rawhide, etc. Sometimes several times in a row. She can be too mouthy with licking your face and nippy with your hands so I use Apple Bitter and that takes care of that issue. I don’t know about cats, she hasn’t been around them. She is good with both men and women. She certainty isn’t shy, she likes to greet everyone coming into the house. She makes it a point to seek out everybody in the house. She will spend time with me in my office, then disappears upstairs to be with my husband. She is good with the grandkids (under 5 yrs), but because of her size the kids need to be monitored, when they are too much, she will go somewhere to escape them. She does get separation anxiety when we are gone and alternates between crying and giving us a barking reprimand for leaving her when we return. So she will need to be with someone at home all day. She puts the “L” in lap!!! She will eat kibble now, she does enjoy homemade dog food though.
3/11/12 Lily is tiny (5lb!) 3 year old chihuahua mix who just arrived at our rescue. Notes from the foster hom: Lily is a great little friendly girl. Good with my dogs. Her one ear is usually up and the other is down. We already call her "Silly Lily". Very playful and likes to run around the yard. Doesn't care for store bought kibble but loves home cooked food including vegetables.
