10/7/10 Unfortunately Clyde has tested FeLV+. It is so heartbreaking because he is healthy in every other way and such a sweetheart of a cat. Clyde would be a great companion for somone who already has a FeLV + cat or as an only cat for some wonderful person willing to give a good home to a cat with a limited lifespan.
FeLV is an incurable disease, contagious only to cats in close contact, which affects the immune system. Although some cats can be recently exposed but their system overcomes it and they retest as negative, most remain positive and eventually, months or years later, become sick, are unable to fight off any illness, and pass away.
10/3/10 Clyde just arrived at our rescue and is an extremely friendly and outgoing sweetheart of cat who needs a new home. He was one of a number of cats abandoned outside a dog only shelter we work with in SC. They aren't set up to keep cats there so are trying desperately to get them to safe places ASAP.
