9/9/09 Sarah is an adorable little girl who looks like a "pugglehund"- a beagle, pug, and dachshund mix. She travels well in the car and is crate trained and housetrained. She is loving, sweet, and extremely affectionate with all the women and children she's met, and good with the dogs and cats she's lived with. Although she adores some men (like my husband), she often initially reacts to strange men with fear-based "agressive" posturing. We're not sure what her trigger is, although we suspect she responds best to confident dog-savvy men who approach her with calm assertiveness and don't react to her initial fearfulness. We suspect this was because she was abused by a man in the past- she looks like she was used for breeding and had multiple litters, she has a burn mark on her back and a few other scars, and she sounds like someone attempted to "debark" her- a process in which breeders destory the vocal cords either by strangling or shoving a pipe down the dog's throat.
Sarah is housetrained, crate trained, knows some basic commands, and is trained to an invisible fence. She loves balls and stuffed toys. Sarah is a dominant but insecure female, so her first response to seeing a new dog is often barking and growling. For these reasons, we are looking for experienced dog owners, who know how to handle these kinds of introductions. Just to be clear, once settled in, she has gotten along fine with all the other dogs in the shelter and in her foster homes.

Sarah is a SWEET little dog who came to us because her owner just couldn't afford to take care of her any more! More and more sweet little dogs like Sarah are finding themselves homeless because of the economic crisis, not because of anything that THEY have done wrong. Her owner told us that Sarah just loves meeting new people and that she is GREAT with other dogs and all ages of children! PLEASE consider giving this sweet girl a home. If you spend 5 minutes with her, her big brown eyes will just break your heart...and find a way into it!
